Abstract:
To see a tiger in the wild is an unforgettable experience. So it was for me, having encountered an 11-month-old tigress at close quarters and fallen in love with her. When she moved off into the undergrowth in Kanha Tiger Reserve, in central India, my hopes - like those of many enraptured others, no doubt - went with her: hopes that she would survive to adulthood and have cubs of her own. I also hoped that such enthralling encounters between human and tiger could continue, and not end in one species causing the other
