Named after the Bronx Zoo's most popular gorilla, the Pattycake Fund will direct admission fees and extra donations from visitors to the Congo Gorilla Forest to fund grass-roots anti-poaching efforts in Africa. Supporting communities "Our goal is to support the communities in Africa who are ultimately responsible for preserving their local wildlife," said Richard Lattis, president of Wildlife Conservation Society, which runs the Bronx Zoo. "Some 60% of rural Africans' protein needs are met by bushmeat," [Michael Hutchins] said. "What will happen when it's gone? We'll have a lot of very hungry people." $1.6M raised In the three years since it opened, the Bronx Zoo's popular Congo exhibit has raised $1.6 million for gorilla preservation through dedicated admission fees and drop box donations.
